Weekend of Cancer and Ocology Data at AACR; semi-preview for ASCO (ALTH, AMGN, ARIA, ARRY, AZN, BIIB, CELG, CRIS, IMMU, IMGN, INFI, MEDX, MNTA, ONCY, PFE, PCYC, SUPG, TELK, THLD)
This weekend will kick off a rather important oncology meeting, and it has a chance of setting the expectations for the highly anticipated ACSO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) annual meeting next month. The American Association for Cancer Research Meeting will take place in Denver, CO. and many of the smaller and larger cancer and disease biotech and drug companies will be presenting data. Amazingly enough, this will be the 100th annual meeting.
Allos Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALTH) will present data from an in vitro study examining the potency of pralatrexate in colon, breast, ovarian, lung, prostate, and head and neck cancer cell lines.
Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) had industry news earlier this week about its experimental drug called AMG 479 shows promise against pancreatic cancer. Amgen will also be presenting lung cancer data.
ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARIA) will offer new preclinical data on deforolimus, its investigational mTOR inhibitor, AP24534, its investigational multi-targeted kinase inhibitor, and its investigational anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) inhibitor.
Array BioPharma, Inc. (ARRY) has eighteen abstracts being presented at the meeting and will disclose findings in 7 new anti-cancer programs. Lung and colon cancer data are in these presentations.
AstraZeneca’s (NYSE: AZN) Medimmune will have a dozen abstracts.
Biogen Idec Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB) will be presenting data on protease inhibitors. Keep in mind that this one just gave earnings yesterday and has been under pressure from Carl Icahn.
Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ: CELG) has multiple presentations for Amrubcin and Lenalidomide for the treatment of multiple myeloma.
Curis, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRIS) will have two presentations. CUDC-305 has recently completed GLP-toxicology testing and data suggests that CUDC-305 has a favorable safety profile and it anticipates filing an IND application for CUDC-305 in mid-2009 and is currently involved in discussions with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies regarding a potential collaboration for this compound. Curis is seeking to consummate such a collaboration in mid-2009.
Immunomedics, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMMU) has nine presentations on its potential products; five of the presentations will be on product candidates created by the company.
ImmunoGen, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMGN) has a number of oral and poster presentations for its Antibody-maytansinoid conjugates with hydrophilic linkers and others.
Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: INFI) is on deck tpo present data, but we’d advide to look into recent news about a trial for cancer being halted this week.
Medarex, Inc. (Nasdaq: MEDX) has data “A Phase I, open-label, dose-escalation, multi-dose study of MDX-1401 (defucosylated human antiCD30 monoclonal antibody) in patients with CD30-positive refractory/relapsed Hodgkin’s lymphoma” and “Efficacy of MDX-1110, an anti-Fucosyl-GM1 antibody in a SCLC tumor model.”
Momenta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: MNTA) has two posted: “M-ONC 402 – A Non-Anticoagulant Low Molecular Weight Heparin Inhibits Tumor Metastasis” and “M-ONC 402 – A Novel Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH), Interacts with Heparin Binding Proteins and Inhibits Metastatic Seeding of Tumor Cells in Mice.”
Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. (NASDAQ: ONCY) has abstracts covering research with reovirus (REOLYSIN).
Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) is also presenting multiple data.
Pharmacyclics, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCYC) has multiple presentations regarding its orally available HDAC inhibitor compound.
SuperGen Inc. (NASDAQ:SUPG) has an oral presentation to highlight SuperGen’s PIM Kinase Inhibitor, SGI-1776, and the strategies SuperGen employed in the discovery and optimization of its potency and selectivity against PIM kinases as novel cancer therapeutic targets.
Telik, Inc. (Nasdaq: TELK) has two abstracts: “In vivo Characterization and Mechanism of Action of Orally Active Aurora Kinase/VEGFR Inhibitors” and “Anti-Tumor Efficacy and Molecular Mechanism of TLK58747.”
Threshold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: THLD) has 3 posted presentations: TH-302 pharmacological activity in 3D multicellular tumor spheroid models; Preclinical dose sequence and regimen optimization of the hypoxia-activated prodrug TH-302; and TH-302, a novel hypoxia-activated prodrug, shows superior efficacy and less toxicity than ifosfamide (IFOS) in metastatic and ectopic human lung carcinoma models.
