Novavax Brings In Rain Maker For Vaccines (NVAX)

There are certain titles that matter in all companies such as CEO, Chairman, and CFO.  In biotechnology and medical or drug companies, it is the chief science officer.  But when you are a relatively emerging vaccine company like Novavax, Inc. (NASDAQ: NVAX), there is another position that might be able to greatly boost the future… the Senior Vice President of International and Government Alliances.

That is exactly what Novavax has done, and the obvious intent here is for development of deeper vaccine relations.  Considering this is one of the flu vaccine players this may be an obvious position.  The company has brought on John J. Trizzino as its Senior Vice President of International and Government Alliances.  He will report directly to the President & CEO of Novavax and will assume the responsibility for developing and managing Novavax’s relations with all government agencies and international alliances with pharmaceutical companies.

Trizzino was Vice President of the vaccine franchise at MedImmune, and was SVP of business development at ID Biomedical.  HE also served as VP within the Henry Schein, Inc. medical division in business development and General Manager of their GIV division.

According to the release, his last 12 years was focused on the vaccine and biotech market and also noted was that he has managed a number of flu vaccine products of FluMist and Fluviral.  It also noted that he created relationships with the U.S.CDC and Prevention’s national immunization program and the Department of Health and Human Services.  Lastly noted was that his responsibilities at MedImmune and work with the RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) market “should be most valuable to Novavax as we continue development of our own RSV vaccine.”

Trizzino’s educational background is as a graduate of Long Island University and a master’s degree in business administration from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
